Gurminj Zavkibekov

Gurmindj (or Gurminj) Zavkibekov,
born on May 1, 1929 in Rushan (Badakhshan, Tajikistan), People’s artist of the Tajik SSR, awarded with the State Prize of the Tajik SSR named after Rudaki.

Education: secondary school №3 in Horog, then Theatre and arts institute in Tashkent named after Ostrovsky (1950-1954)

He was part of various artistic groups, such as: the children’s Pamiri music group in 1943-1946, actor at the Horog theatre of music and drama in 1946 to 1950, Tajik academic theatre of drama named after Lohuti.

In 1990, he presented his own collection of music instruments and other pieces including props from movies, which became the Gurminj Museum in the house where he lived during his last years. The house-museum is located in Dushanbe, 23, Bokhtar street.
